The University Grants Commission (UGC) launched a scheme on skills development based higher education as part of college/university education, leading to Bachelor of Vocation (B. Voc.) This Degree comes with multiple exits such as Diploma/ Advanced Diploma under the NSQF.
Talking of B. Voc, the syllabus of vocational course is spread over 3 years and consists of a combination of Practical, and Theory courses. The weight of theory is 40% and that of On the Job Training (OJT) is 60%.
The syllabus of a vocational course of this 3-year program is further divided into 6 semesters; 2 semesters per year. 1st year is for Diploma, 2nd year is for Advance Diploma & 3rd year is for Degree. This means a student pursuing this course, gets a Diploma after completion of the 1st year, Advanced Diploma after completion of the 2nd year and Degree after completion of the 3 years.
The syllabus of Vocational courses is focused on universities and colleges providing undergraduate studies which also incorporate specific job roles and their National Occupational Standards (NOSs) along with broad-based general education.
